"Absolutely superlative- a rating of "excellent" just doesn't seem to cover it. The warmest welcome we've ever had on our travels (and they are many!) Sharon is a domestic godess- and Dave the congenial host" Karen Bentley & Paul Schofield, UK, June 8-12, 2007
Prince Edward Islanders by choice
Everyone comments that we have "in no way retired" and we personally feel that we have been rejuvenated since moving to this generous spirited, Gentle Island. Sharon's recent retirement after a 30 year career as a guidance counselor, Dave's enticing offer of employment with the Irving Corporation, following the move East of all three of our children, provided us the timely opportunity to get out of the “rat race” of Toronto. Here we are five years later on Prince Edward Island …sand, surf, seaside, serenity and more ... If you can imagine the rejuvenating effects of a trip to our Gentle Island, picture yourself living here....We are indeed "new" people living a dream come true!
Our Dream come true on PEI
In the fall of 2004, we purchased our incredible property with it's unique and gentle beauty, with the intention of fufilling Sharon's retirement dream of opening a Bed and Breakfast. The first order of business was creating a luxurious in-home suite on the lower, walk-out level of our new home. By December of 2004 The Trillium Suite had been inspected, rated and licenced and was ready for business! Converting the large, "brand new shop", formerly used to repair small aircraft, into a two unit, executive cottage was next on our to do list.
Finally, in the Spring of 2008 we licenced our fourth suite on the main floor, walk- out to the upper deck, level of our home. Now, here we are four years later recipients of the inaugural Brand Essence Award, Rural Beautification Society Awards,
Taste Our Island Award Finalist and SuperHost Atlantic designation.
Why own and operate a Bed and Breakfast?
Our rationale was to keep Sharon occupied with a million things to do. Meeting new people, entertaining, and acting as a resource are but a few. Additionally, we wanted to ward off the empty-nest syndrome, while at the same time satisfying Dave’s perfectionistic tendencies, by purchasing our seven acres of heaven, for which he provides constant, meticulous grooming and maintenance. The caring, charming, contented, calm,... (need we say more), islanders, helped ease our transition from mach speed Torontonians to Gentle Island Innkeepers.
The Best of Both Worlds: City and Country
We fell in love with the property because it simultaneously offered a truly breathtaking, tranquil, country setting, and an elegant home with all the ammenities and features of city living. After six months of hard work on our “labour of love” conversion, we were ready to receive guests in the second phase of our B&B conversion in June of 2005. Dave came up with the name Bonshaw Breezes, on a beautiful, sunny and breezy morning as we sat sipping our coffee in the hot tub.
Four luxurious suites from which to choose
We named our original three suites to reflect what is near and dear to us. Our unique in-home Trillium Suite reflects our Ontario roots, the elegant Mayflower, the scenic province of Nova Scotia which lured our children to Acadia and St. Mary's Universities and finally the luxurious Lady's Slipper which represents our deep affection for our newfound and much loved home on the Gentle Island. We have since, licenced the spectacular Morning Glory Suite. Situated on the main floor of our home, and decorated in a stunning blue shade, the Morning Glory Suite features a walk out to the upper deck,(complete with Morning Glories) cathedral ceilings and a five piece jacuzzi bath.
We Love what we do
In the past seven years we have met so many wonderful people, continue to thrive on the busy business of being B&B owners/operators, and anxiously anticipate the 2012 season. We simply love meeting people and making their home away from home experience exceptional as well as both anticipating and exceeding their expectations. Returning visitors will notice the major landscaping upgrades that we undertook in the last couple of seasons such as our expanded gardens, natural clay waterfall, driveway resurfacing, planting of more than 120 new trees and more. Our website virtual tour on our home page to complements Trip Advisor, You Tube, Flikr, and Facebook and we hope that you enjoy them and that they are useful to you. While you're on our home page enjoy our rave reviews from visitors to our site.
